John DuRocher Counseling believes in the inherent worth of all people
regardless of age, race, sexual or gender identity, creed, religion, or spiritual belief.

John DuRocher was born in Gainesville, Florida in 1965.
In 1967 his family moved to Orlando. His father was an attorney and his mother spent her life working in education, eventually earning a PhD from the University of Florida.
He has an older sister and younger brother.
John graduated from Boone High School in 1984.
In 1986 he began his college career at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He began college with the idea of being a business major however quickly developed a love for English Literature. A particularly passionate professor helped him decide to focus on English Literature as his major.
In 1989 John spent a semester in London, England studying Art History and Cultural Anthropology with a focus on Jamaican & Rastafarian Culture.
In 1990 John moved to Eugene, Oregon where he attended the University of Oregon and continued his literature studies, including a course on the life of Bob Dylan.
Travel has long been one of John's passions.
As a teen he spent 2 summers traveling around the United States on a school bus camping trip with the YMCA.
He has visited Amsterdam, Paris, Egypt, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Canada.
Throughout the late 1980’s and 1990’s John spent time following the Grateful Dead seeing just under 100 live shows including shows in Florida, Virgina, Wisconsin, New York, Georgia, California, Oregon, London England and Paris France.
John moved from Eugene, Oregon back to Orlando, Florida in 2001.
John held jobs working in motorcycle and auto shops, woodworking, landscaping, cutting concrete, and construction.
John worked numerous “temp” jobs doing everything from stocking shelves to factory work.
John spent a year as the Road Manager for a touring rock and roll band, The Renegade Saints. The band played about 100 shows and traveled 30,000 miles that year.
In 1996 John learned the art of blowing / lampworking glass. He created and sold art pieces at shows and stores around the country for 8 years.
In 2009 John began working in the field of Substance Abuse at The Center for Drug Free Living (now ASPIRE) in the detox. It was here John found both a passion and talent for working with addicts, teaching about substance abuse and addiction. John worked at the detox for 6 years.
In 2010 John began also working at “Another Chance Counseling” under Fran Conti CAP.
Under Fran’s mentorship, John learned the clinical side of counseling i.e. assessments, treatment plans, notes, and discharge summaries as well the nuances of facilitating group sessions.
At “Another Chance Counseling” John led DUI groups as well as worked with a “Teen Group” for 4 years.
In 2011 John began working toward becoming certified in Addiction Counseling by taking courses at “Crossroads Training Center” with Wallace Jones.
In Spring of 2012 he became a “Certified Addiction Specialist” certified through the “Florida Certification Board.”
In 2012 John returned to school to finish his Bachelor’s Degree at Rollins College graduating from Rollins in 2014 with a B.A. in English literature.
In 2015 John became a “Certified Addiction Professional” (CAP).
In addition to "Another Chance Counseling", John worked at the now closed “ACT Center” and at “STEPS”, a non-profit counseling center in Orange County, Florida.
John also spent time as an Intake Coordinator with “Advanced Recovery Systems.”
In 2016 John opened John DuRocher Counseling LLC.
